Present continuous (I am doing)

 

We use the continuous for things happening at or around the time of speaking. The action is not complete.

우리가 사용하는 진행형은 그 시간에 주변에 발생하는 상황을 말하는 것이며, 그 행동은 끝나지 않았다

그냥 지금 하는 행동인데 끝나지 않은 것 들이다 예문 보고 배워 보자

 

1. The water is boiling. Can you turn it off? 물이 끓고 있어 불 좀 꺼 줄래? (지금 물 끓는다)
2. Listen to those people. What language are they speaking? 여러분들 들으세요. 그들이 무슨 언어를 사용하고 있죠? (지금 사용하는 것)
3. Let's go out. It isn't raining now. 나가자. 지금 비 안 온다 (지금 안 옴)
4. "I am busy." "What are you doing?" 나는 바빠. "뭐 하고 있는데?"(지금)
5.  I'm getting hungry. Let's eat. 아 배고프다 (지금). 먹으러 가
6. Kate wants to work in Italy, so she's learning Italian. 케이트는 이탈리아에서 일하는 걸 원한다, 그래서 그녀는 이탈리아 말 배우고 있는 중이야

We use the present continuous for temporary situations: 현재 진행은 일시적인 상황에서도 사용한다

I am living with some friends until I find a place of my own. 나는 친구와 살고 있어 내가 나의 장소를 구할 때까지 (일시적인 상황)

 

A: You are working hard today. 오늘 너 일 열심히 하네 (오늘: 일시적인 평소에는 일을 안 했나 보다;)

B: Yes, I have a lot to do. 어, 나 할 일이 많아서

 

 

Simple present (I do)

 

We use the simple for things in general or things that happen repeatedly.

과거랑 현재 미래랑 중 아무거나 포함

 

Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius. 물은 100도에서 끓어 (과거에도 그랬고, 현재에도 그랬고, 미래에도 그럴 것이야)

Excuse me, do you speak English? 실례합니다, 영어 사용하나요? (현재에 영어 사용해?)

It doesn't rain very much in summer 이번 여름은 비가 많이 안 왔네 (이 시즌에)

What do you usually do after work? 뭘 하니 보통 일 마치고? (과거, 현재 포함)

Most people learn to swim when they are children. 대부분의 사람들은 어릴 때 수영을 배운다 (과거)

Every day the population of the world increases by about 200,000 people. 매년 인구는 200,000 명씩 증가하고 있다 (과거, 현재)

 

• 위에 예문에서 by는? 수나 양을 나타내는 표현

  The bullet missed him by two inches.

  그 총알은 2인치 간격을 두고 그를 비켜 갔다 [그는 2인치 차이로 그 총알을 피했다].

  House prices went up by 10%.

  집값이 10퍼센트 올랐다.

  It would be better by far to…

  … 하는 것이 훨씬 더 나을 것이다.

I always do and I'm always doing

I always do (something)=I do it every time 나는 이것을 매일 한다.

 

I always drive to work. (not I'm always driving)

 

I'm always doing something" has a different meaning. For example:

-I'm always losing things= I lost things very often perhaps too often, or more often than normal.

 

I always do 와 I am always doing 의 차이점

 

I always do 는 항상 무얼 한다는 느낌이면, I am always doing 은 너무 심하게 한다 라는 느낌이다

 

You're always watching television. You should do something more active.

(=you watch too much television) 너 너무 Tv 많이 봐 투머치야!

 

Tim is never satisfied. He's always complaining=(=He complains too much)
